Álvaro has led comprehensive legal advisory teams addressing corporate, contractual, tax, energy, foreign investment, mining, mergers and acquisitions, and telecommunications issues. He has also litigated contractual, real estate, energy and mining disputes.

Álvaro has prepared legal opinions on mining and procedural law, as well as on legal ethics. He coordinated the team in charge of drafting regulation regarding attorney confidentiality for the Voluntary Bar Association of Chile’s Code of Ethics (2009-2011). Álvaro is professor of Legal Ethics at the University of Chile’s School of Law and, currently, peer-elected chair of its Department of Legal Sciences. He has published several essays on legal ethics.

Previously, he was partner at Philippi, Yrarrázaval, Pulido & Brunner, now PPU Legal (2000-2010) and member of the international attorney program of the New York law firm, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy (1995).
